Trail Song: Shenandoah Waysides

Strider suggested a trail song verse about Shenandoah, and it was quickly delivered.

We met a ridge runner in the park who told us that the bear population, usually one of the highest on the trail, was decimated by a recent outbreak of mange.

The trail maintainers of the PATC do great work, but we would occasionally find sections in the park where the white blazes were sparse or worn almost completely. Nobody's perfect, and we've got an app for navigation anyway.

This verse was also entered into the logbook at Rock Spring Hut. The PATC archives logbooks for shelters they maintain, so this is my easter egg for posterity.

well this here's a story 'bout a Shenandoah
hike on a nice trail or just walk up on the road-ah
went down to that wayside for some ice cream and beer
but the only thing missing was the Shenandoah bears

Shenandoah Shenandoah skyline to the stars
at 900 miles the halfway doesn't seem so far
if i should not make it to the summit up in Maine
you will find me painting blazes on the Shenandoah trees
