Recovery and Recall
By now I feel fully recovered from surgery. Tomorrow afternoon I'll return to the surgeon's office to have any staples and stitches removed. On Wednesday I'll be landing in Newark and taking a car to Branchville, NJ where Pickup and Strider will be walking into town.
Passing the time was easier than last time I had to return home for a couple weeks. I kept myself busy and went out for social time as much as I could manage. I took opportunities to jam on acoustic and electric music and went to an electronic music concert. All very wholesome experiences. To keep my legs from wasting away completely, I went out on some short day hikes.
Another new pastime is putting my claim of remembering most of my days on the trail to the test. I've started a log of every day of my hike in a composition book. I'm 2/3 of the way caught up and so far all of the dates are lining up, and I remember something about every single day. I remember what all of the shelters and campsites and hotels and hostels I've slept in or near looked like. There are still a lot of events that I remember happening vividly, but not when they happened. I hope to be completely caught up by the time I return to the trail, so I can continue logging as I go.
Before long we'll be taking a train into NYC and eating some delicious ramen. Until then, I look forward to rejoining my friends in suffering the summer heat.
